Notice

Starting Monday, May 4, 2020 the Nez Perce County Sheriff’s office driver’s license department will be open Monday through Friday by appointment only for Nez Perce County residents in need of certain in-person services.

To ensure social distancing measures, the number of patrons scheduled will be limited, and we ask that appointment holders enter the building unaccompanied by others. Please call 208-799-3138 between 8am and 4pm to make an appointment. Employees will conduct screening prior to entry to our office. If you’ve been sick or in contact with anyone that possibly has Covid19, please reschedule your appointment. Callers should consider the following before requesting an appointment:

  • New residents from out of state may wait at least 14 days after moving to the county prior to making their appointment.
  • There is a 30-day grace period for CDLs and a 90-day grace period for Class D licenses and Identification cards.
  • The Real ID compliant card deadline has been extended to October 1, 2021.
  • Licenses expiring between March 1, 2020 and May 31, 2020 have been granted emergency extensions to June 30, 2020. Extension letters can be obtained at the ITD.IDAHO.GOV website.

Under certain circumstances, online renewals, duplicate or replacement cards, address updates, and driving records are available at ITD.IDAHO.GOV

DOT physicals and address updates can be emailed to ITD Driver's License or faxed to 208-334-8586.

Suspension or reinstatement questions can be answered by calling ITD at 208-334-8736 or 208-334-8000.

DRIVER'S TRAINING

Items required to register a student for driver's training:

  • Minimum age 14-1/2 years
  • State certified birth certificate
  • Social Security card
  • School ID Card or other form of photo ID
  • A parent that is listed on the birth certificate must accompany the student
  • The parent must present a photo ID
  • If the parent's name is different than what is shown on the birth certificate, the parent must present documentation showing name change such as divorce decree/marriage certificate or other legal documentation
  • If under age 18, verification of compliance from school they are attending

SURRENDERING OUT-OF-STATE LICENSES

To surrender an out-of-state license and acquire an Idaho license, and individual must:

  • Be a resident of Idaho and apply within 90 days of residing in Idaho. CDL holders must be licensed in Idaho within 30 days of residency
  • Provide proof of residency via: rental or lease agreement, utility bill, employment records, school enrollment records
  • Out-of-state applicants are required to take a written test
  • If out-of-state license has been expired for 25 months or more, a road test will be required in addition to the written test

Additional Information

You can obtain a copy of your driving record by accessing the Idaho Transportation Department website for $9.56 or from your local Driver License Section for $7.00.
