FINGERPRINTING SERVICES: The Sheriff's Office is offering fingerprinting services Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. No appointment is necessary.

processes Concealed Weapons Licenses and renewals

The Sheriff is mandated by Idaho State Code 18-3302 on the process of issuing concealed weapons licenses.

The Sheriff shall require any person applying for original issuance of a license to submit their fingerprints in addition to the other information required by the code. The Idaho State Police shall conduct a national fingerprint-based records check and return the results within 60 days. The Sheriff shall not issue a license before receiving the results of the records check. Before a person can obtain a license, a person shall have proof of firearms training as set forth in Idaho State Code 18-3302.

INITIAL APPLICATIONS: Monday through Friday (by appointment only) from 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Driver's License Division of Nez Perce County Sheriff's Office, 1150 Wall St., Lewiston. You will need to fill out the CWL application. You must provide firearms training documentation. Your fingerprints will be taken. Bring a valid form of picture identification. Application fee is due at the time of the application. Background checks take approximately 90 days. You will be notified by mail if you have been approved or denied. Renewals Licenses are valid for five years. To renew your license, you must come in 90 days before or after the expiration date. Renewals that are 91 days to 180 days late will be charged a late fee. If renewal is at 181 days late or after, then a new process must be started.

APPLICANT MUST BE 21 YEARS OF AGE

PROOF OF FIREARMS TRAINING REQUIRED

TRAINING MAY INCLUDE ANY OF THE FOLLOWING:

1. Fish and Game Hunters Safety Course-Must provide Card.
2. DD214-Must have Honorable Discharge on it.
3. Gun Safety Course-Taught by NRA certified instructor. (Check internet, local papers, etc.)
4. For an Enhanced License you must have a Training Certificate of Completion signed by both the firearms instructor and the legal instructor and the course must meet the requirements of Idaho Code 18-3302K(4)(b)(i)-(iv). Must be taken prior to applying, certificate is good for one (1) year.

States are constantly changing their CWL laws and regulations. It is your responsibility to contact the states you are going to be traveling in and make sure you can carry a weapon in that state. Carrying of concealed firearms by qualified retired law enforcement officers

DO NOT sign and date the forms.

You MUST present the following at the time of submission in order for your application to be accepted:

All Four Forms (CWL Application, Lautenberg Form, Supplemental Form & Training Certificate)

• Proof of firearms training
• Current identification card or driver’s license

Credit cards, debit cards and checks are accepted – if you are paying in cash please try to bring in the correct amount (see above fees)

The process to renew is the same except the following three forms are necessary:
