The Region II Juvenile Detention Center was built in 1992, and is located at 140 10th Street, Lewiston, Idaho. Upon opening, the facility was not funded directly by tax dollars, but instead was a stand alone entity that operated in the same manner as an enterprise. In budget year 2010, Nez Perce County decided to move the operations under its umbrella to ensure its viability (due to low detention census and running the "red" for the last two years).
The facility has five primary stakeholders--Clearwater County, Idaho County, Latah County, Lewis County, and Nez Perce County--with Nez Perce County holding primary fiscal and management responsibility. The facility is governed by Nez Perce County Court Services, and operates under a Joint Powers Agreement with the stakeholder counties who serve as an "advisory" board to the facility.
The Region II Detention Center is a 16-bed, maximum security facility that contracts with many different governmental entities for placement of their juvenile offenders who are less than 18 years of age.
In 1995, the Juvenile Probation Department was created as a result of the legislative enactment of the Juvenile Corrections Act.
In 1997, Nez Perce County combined the Region II Juvenile Detention Center, and the Juvenile Probation Department, and renamed the department "Juvenile Court Services."
In 1998, Nez Perce County added the Adult Misdemeanor Probation Department to "Juvenile Court Services," and once again renamed the department "Nez Perce County Court Services."
In 2006, the Clinical Department was added, and now Domestic Violence treatment, and Drug/Alcohol Treatment is conducted within Court Services.
Finally, in 2010, the main offices of Court Services expanded and were remodeled, and all of the probationary functions and clinical functions were housed at the main address.
On October 1, 2015, the department's name was changed to "Nez Perce County Justice Services."
On April 11, 2022, Justice Services merged with Region II Juvenile Detention Center. All business is conducted at one address - 140 10th Street.
There are approximately 30 full-time employees, 10 on-call employees, 25 volunteers, and one independent contractor associated with Nez Perce County Justice Services.
