NOTICE

AUTO LICENSE OFFICE CLOSURE

AUTO LICENSE CLOSED ON MONDAY, MAY 12, 2025 for annual spring class with ITD. 

MOVING NOTICE

AUTO LICENSE CLOSURE FOR MOVING

Auto License will be closed Tuesday through Friday, May 27-30, 2025, while we move to our new location at 1129 F ST, across from City Hall. We will also be closed on Monday, May 26, for Memorial Day.

We will reopen Monday, June 2, 2025 with our regular hours.

NOTICE

VIN Inspections

Auto License is now doing VIN inspections from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM Mon-Fri.

Due to limited parking at the Courthouse, please contact law enforcement for VIN inspections for boats, recreational vehicles and trailers:

  • If you reside inside the Lewiston city limits, please contact the Lewiston Police Department at 208-746-0171.
  • If you reside outside the Lewiston city limits, please contact the Nez Perce County Sheriff's Office at 208-799-3131.

The additional charge to renew your registrations through your county office is the Administration fee.
 
This fee is used to fund the Auto License office and keep it open and operating, so that we can continue to provide personalized customer service locally.  There has always been an Administration fee, ITD no longer collects this fee for the counties. Please use the “In Office” fee to renew your registrations.

You have several options for renewal
  • Walk INS welcome, no appointment required
  • We will be happy to renew your registrations over the phone 208-799-3026. Credit card fees apply.
  • Mail in - Nez Perce County Assessor PO BOX 896 Lewiston ID 83501 - Using your renewal notice along with a check to NPCA or Dropbox located at the Courthouse, 1230 Main Lewiston ID 83501

PARKS AND RECREATION

We are not able to issue any registrations for Idaho State Parks and Recreation at this time, due to their new system. As soon as the system is completed, we will resume sales. This includes Boats, ATV’s/UTV’s, Dirt Bikes, and Snowmobiles. Please contact Hell’s Gate State Park 208‑799‑5015 for further information.You may also contact Parks and Recreation to register or renew at 1‑888‑922‑6743 or go to the Parks and Recreation Website.

Q:WHAT ARE IDAHO'S MOTOR VEHICLE REQUIREMENTS?

To register a vehicle in Idaho:

  • The vehicle must belong to an Idaho resident or business.
  • The vehicle must be titled in Idaho before it can be registered. (You can apply for vehicle registration immediately after the titling process has been completed.)

Q:WHERE DO I OBTAIN A COPY OF MY MOTOR VEHICLE RECORD?

You may obtrain a copy of your Motor Vehicle record at the Idaho Transportation Department website under the DMV Online section or by visiting the NPC Sheriff DMV office at 1150 Wall Street in Lewiston.

Q:HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO REGISTER A MOTOR VEHICLE?

Q:WHERE DO I GO TO REGISTER MY MOTOR VEHICLE?

To the Courthouse at 1230 Main Street in the Auto License/Vehicle Registration Office located at the west side of the building. Hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday-Friday. Phone: 208-799-3026.

Insure your vehicle or lose your registration.

Vehicle owners without vehicle insurance coverage for two consecutive months will receive a warning and be given 30 days to provide proof of insurance or obtain an exemption before their vehicle registration is suspended. The Drive Insured law (Idaho Code 49-1234) was passed during the 2019 Idaho legislative session, and went into effect in January 2020.
